Cleaning and Finding!

My grandma is organizing her sewing room and finding some awesome things. She comes down the stair constantly with an assortment of vintage treasures either she had or my great grandmother. I took pictures of some of the things. She used to use the Grist button hole machine all the time. Enjoy the pictures. Soon, I will be posting pictures of another 1950s dress I made for Christmas last year. Also, I'm so excited!! My new patterns came. I'm just having trouble deciding which one I should make first. Until next post!

Grandma's Antiques

From Buttons to jewelry, to memories, grandma shares it all!

Cute engraved locket my grandmother got from her father

Beatles photo album necklace. I found this in her jewelry box and thought it was SO cute! She said she wore it everyday in junior high and showed everybody! It has pictures on both sides of the fold out. There are group pictures and an individual picture of all the Beatles.

My grandmother's Holly Hobby watch. It's so cute. I've researched them and can only find one other on ebay like it.

1950 Easter Dress Finished!

My mom braided my hair and stuck in the pearl bobby pins I made.

Cool retro effect on photoshop... interesting, I thought...

I got sooooooo many compliments on my dress, hair, and gloves at church today. Some were weird like "You like like your from the Jetsons TV show and others about how gorgeous it was. Most couldn't believe I sewed it. Happy Easter!

Sewing My 1950s Dress

Every year I sew a special Christmas and Easter dress. About two years ago, I asked my grandma if I could help her sew one of my dresses. She said OF COURSE! So, she's been teaching me how to sew. I started getting more into it and fell in love with vintage patterns. It's been a long adventure but my dress is at the cleaners and I will pick it up tomorrow! I will post a final picture on Easter. I LOVE the wide collar on this pattern! I made the straight dress on the right. I had to combine the two patterns to make it my size and it turned out wonderful (both the yellow dresses). The fabric is a pretty blue linen with a white linen collar. I made the belt and I am making pearl bobby pin hair accessories. I have white crocheted gloves I scored at a local thrift store. Instead of just a Christmas and Easter special dress, I am going to start making more vintage dresses! I'm so excited! I'll post a finished product soon!

Retro Jewlery! 60s and 80s

These earrings are soooooo awesome! I found about three old jewelry boxes in my grandmother's house. One happened to be my grandmother's jewelry from her high school days in the 60's, and the other boxes were from my mom's high school day in the 80's! I've worn a few of them. More pictures to come.

What Got Me Started!

Thrift store shopping has always been one of my favorite past times. This gorgeous 1950's floral pillbox hat with netting was hiding in a window of a messy thrift store in Ventura county. I'm not very good at dating vintage things yet, and this doesn't have a label, so I guess it could have been handmade in the 50's. I research items thoroughly and can estimate a date if there isn't a printed one. Anyways, this hat put the light bulb over my head for a blog all about vintage treasures. I'm an experience blogger, photographer, and intermediate sewer. I hope you "follow" my blog and enjoy my vintage musings!
