Some of these comics are from the 1970s. I love them! I'm willing to take orders also. 

Prom Dress Inspiration

May 19th 2012- I had the best time at high school prom. What do girls look forward to the most for prom? THE DRESS! My mind was buzzing with all the dress ideas. One night, my family was watching Dancing With the Stars when I saw the dress I wanted to make. This season, Maria Menounos and Derek danced a foxtrot during Motown week. Maria wore a sparkly, sequin, long, flowy dress with white gloves. As she was spinning around, (watch the dance here) I fell in love! I jumped online and found a pattern on Etsy. It's Butterick 3768: strapless, long, corset back. PERFECT! I wore a light blue shirt underneath with my vintage elbow length gloves and a curly updo. In the end, I got exactly want I pictured along with SO many wonderful complements! I do LOVE this dress.

Great Grandma's Gloves

This is my Great Grandma Josephine Carroll Christensen. She was beautiful lady. Since her family was from Syria, we called her Sithoo which means grandmother in Lebanese. Her daughter (my grandma) gave me this amazing leather-like gloves that she wore in the early 1940s. Some of the stitching is coming out so I know she wore then quite a few times. Her hands were very tiny. I can't wear them because my hand is bigger, but I love looking at these and thinking of my sweet great grandmother, Sithoo.

Easter Dress

Happy Easter! I LOVE this dress. It's a 1950s Butterick 5605 pattern with a full skirt, kimono sleeve, with a tied bow in the back. It's so cute and comfortable. For anyone making this dress, WATCH OUT FOR THE KIMONO GUSSET SLEEVES! It was difficult. I really had a lot of help from my grandma and an awesome tutorial that goes step by step. The dress is beautiful and I wore my crocheted gloves. I will post pictures of me wearing it soon. I'm also making a petticoat to wear under it.

Lots of altering when into this. My grandma really helped me work out the kinks. The drawing was just a drawing... there was no actual pattern. I had this dress pattern from Burda Style and then did a ruffle with lining fabric and a ruffle of pretty tulle. My love for Disney and vintage style collided to make this:

Vintage Buttons in my Stocking!

A few weekends ago, my mom and I went to a local craft fair. There were so many booths and vendors!! One booth was an older lady selling all vintage things. In a small basket was her collection of vintage buttons, belt buckles, and other cute things. I got to pick out some of the most awesome buttons ever!!

This was one of the few vintage belt buckles. The lady selling them thought that this one was really really really old. I love it! I was thinking it would be a cute necklace or even a hair clip!

My favorite out of all the buttons are these beautiful "Aqua Glass Bow Vintage Buttons". Any ideas on what to do with them? Earrings? Put them on gloves?

Buttons By Schwanda- These are gorgeous pearl buttons.

I absolutely love the look of these vintage buttons! There are a real 60/70s orangey color with a white trim.

VintageThrift

Christmas is nearing so in order to have a local Christmas, I've been looking for gifts at the thrift store. I got some awesome velvet bow ties for my brothers. My grandma recently surprised me with these awesome gloves

The hand detail is amazing!

These are white elbow length gloves I thrifted for $3.

All around good thrift. Oh, and I finished my Christmas dress! Pictures soon! Merry Christmas!

Old Family Photos

I just love these photos of my family. So I've been working on my Christmas dress which is an early 50s pattern. I'll post a picture of the pattern and fabric soon. I'm in the middle of picking out a nice camera so that I can film the tutorial of out to make an easy tank dress. I just love these photos.

Vintage Goodies

My grandparents surprised me with the most gorgeous vintage antiques. I can't wait to wear them. I will be posting pictures soon too. They got me the most beautiful pair of handmade vintage gloves with so much embroidered detail. Also, there's a beautiful hat pin, a 1920s cloche hat (that I've been craving) and another 1920s hat that is black and sequin covered! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa!
Also, the poll shows that "How to make a tank dress" won for my first video tutorial! I will be buying a camera soon. I already have the supplies. I will post a link as soon as I've finished it.

I will be posting pictures this weekend of my Christmas dress pattern and the fabric I'm using. I'm so excited to start making it. Maybe I will be even able to finish it this weekend!!

Vintage Comic Book Shoes

So I now have a favorite pair of shoes.

I bought vintage comics from eBay for CHEAP. Then, I just cut out my favorite pics and words and mod podged it onto the shoes. These aren't great pictures but I took them as soon as I was done last night. I wore them to my friend's Broadway choir concert and got a few compliments! Who's on my shoes? Superman, Batman, CAPTAIN AMERICA, Aquaman, Spiderman, Wonderwoman, The Green Lantern, and Thor.

What to do with the extra comics? I'm going to make bangles, headbands, and maybe even some high heels!! 

How to Make a Skirt from Men's Dress Shirt Sleeves

For this awesome skirt, all you need is sleeves from a men's dress shirt!

Supplies: two XL men's shirts, scissors, sewing machine

1. Cut the sleeves off from the shirt. Then cut down the middle of the side without the cuff buttons.

2. Open the sleeves up. The buttons should be in the middle.

3. Pin two sleeves right sides (the side you want to show) together. I matches them by the similar curves at the bottom.

4. Sew down the side you pinned. I sewed in 5/8. Then, pick the next sleeve you want next and pin in on one of the sides of the two you just sewed together. After pinning right sides together, open it up an check to make sure you like the pattern. Repeat for the last sleeve.

5. You should have all four sleeves sewed together! Congrats! Now, lay it open and measure across the top. Measure your waist. Determine what waist size you want it to be. You can trim it or sew a big seam. Two 2XL shirts make about a 30 inch or so waist. You can even add a zipper if you want. I just trimmed it on both sides to match my waist. and sewed it together. I liked the swoopy hem, but if you don't you can hem it.

6. Good job! You're all done!
